Ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) receptacles, or also known as "the outlets with the buttons" are an important safety device that should be in every home. GFCIs protect the user from getting seriously injured, or even death, from electrical shock. They are a special type of outlet which has a breaker inside it. If the GFCI detects a disturbance in the flow of electricity, it trips and shuts down, protecting the user.
GFCIs are currently recommended wherever water can accumulate, such as kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, garages, exteriors, etc.
Contact your local electrician to evaluate your electrical system to make sure you and your family are safe.
